Giotto collaborative poster: 20 worksheets

| |

To create this collaborative poster we used the PDF images that you can find below. In the worksheets you will find the 20 sheets that make up the poster, the numbered grid to assemble the sheets and the color images to print or project:

After studying Giotto and his works, especially those of the Scrovegni Chapel, we created a large collaborative POSTER, where each student tried to copy the colors of Giotto’s frescoes.

The panel we chose to reproduce is “The Flight into Egypt” painted by the artist in the Scrovegni Chapel between 1303 and 1305. Each student received a part of the painting and an image from which to copy the colors. We worked as if we were making a large fresco with the “giornata”, that is the part of the painting an artist was able to do in a day. Obviously we did not divide the painting with the actual “giornate” painted by Giotto, but with rectangles to color with colored pencils. The parts at the end will be assembled in a unique image.

The challenge is trying to copy the colors as faithfully as possible, in order to assemble the complete poster with all the colored rectangles. We can also imagine to be restorers who have to reproduce the original colors of the fresco, and for this reason they must be able to imitate them as much as possible.

You can copy the original color images from a computer or tablet or from photocopies (see the worksheets below). Once completed, the sheets are assembled following the numbered grid.

Here are the works of two seventh grade classes assembled:
