With the pinch pot technique we made these little ceramic bells, all with different shapes and sounds. The pinch pot technique allows you to make simple shapes and is one of the basic techniques to start working with clay: here we see the various phases.
After creating the cups we shaped them and made a hole on the top to make them become little bells, after that, we decorated the surface with small shapes or incisions. To complete the work we also shaped small perforated beads to use as clappers and external decorations.
After the first firing the small bells and beads were decorated with colored engobes:
Finally we glazed the bells with a transparent glaze and after the second firing we mounted the clapper and the other decorations with a string.
Hey Miriam, thank you for this resource. I have been looking for clay constructions that explore the pinch technique more into a more indepth project. Thank you for sharing it. I will use it this year. I am an art teacher from Lincoln, NE. I teach high school introduction to art and pottery. Again thank you for the resource.
