The Art lessons for this school year in the 6th Grade classes, follow the CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning). To start I devised a lesson plan aimed at welcoming the new students.
First I introduced myself with a video about me and the subject I teach. For this purpose I created a video with Adobe Spark, an integrated suite of storytelling applications for the iPad, iPhone, and web developed by Adobe Systems.
You can watch the video here. I watched the video with my students and I asked them some help to guess the meaning of the sentences. I also asked them some questions about their hobbies, their travels, interests or about their family members.
After this introduction we focused on the aim to know each other. Working in pairs students interviewed each others using a worksheet with questions and writing the answers of the classmate.
After that we started an art activity where each student completed a worksheet drawing a little self-portrait in the style of Mii characters and writing 4 sentences about himself/herself. Here are the instructions:
- Write and colour your name in capital letters in the rectangle below
- Draw your avatar as a Mii character
- Draw 4 features about yourself and write a brief explanation in English, eg: my family (draw your family) my age (draw a big coloured number) my favourite food (draw a slice of pizza) my favourite hobby (draw a camera)
- Use coloured pencils and felt-tip pens
You can buy the printable worksheet for the “drawing about me” here below. You can also use it as cover of the notebook.
