Tonal and chromatic gradations for a landscape

| | ,

grad paes.

The tonal gradations are made by adding white or black to a color. In this way we work on light and dark shades of that color. The chromatic gradations are obtained by mixing two colors together (such as yellow and red), without the use of white or black. After understanding the difference between the two kinds of gradations, the 7th grade students have painted two sheets, each with a different gradations. One of the two paintings have been cut out with the silhouette of a mountain horizon. These mountains were pasted on the other painting, that is the background or the sky. To complete the landscape we painted the silhouette of a tree and some flying birds, with black tempera, painting directly with a paintbrush over the colored background. We need:

  • 2 drawing sheets
  • tempera or acrylic paintings of various colors
  • flat brush for the background and round brush to the tree
  • scissors and glue
